Japanese beer maker Kirin is understood to have lobbed an acquisition bid for Blackmores, in a proposal expected to be announced as soon as Thursday morning.
The bid comes two weeks after Street Talk revealed a strategic player was running circles around the ASX-listed vitamin maker, as it rebooted interest from earlier in the year.
Kirin is a large global beer company but has a pharmaceuticals business that it has been growing. Should it be successful with Blackmores, the vitamin maker would be its first sizeable play.Blackmores posted $338 million revenue, 53.3 per cent gross margin, $24.4 million underlying net profit after tax.has co-edited Street Talk since 2009, specialising in private equity, investment banking, M&A and equity capital markets stories.
