The Philippines and Japan would like to enter into an agreement to conduct military exercises in the country, Department of National Defense (DND) chief Jose Faustino Jr. said Monday.
At a press conference, Faustino said that currently, Japanese troops have been participating in military exercises as observers.
“Japan and the Philippines would like to have a VFA in order for the Japanese troops to conduct exercises in the Philippines. Right now they cannot. They are just observers,” he said.Asked how the possible agreement will help the Philippines in securing the WPS, Faustino said these agreements are not directed towards another country but for national interest.Faustino made the statement after senators expressed support for the possible VFA with Japan and the Philippines.
