Japan Olympic chief facing corruption probe to step down in June

TOKYO, March 19 — The head of Japan's Olympic Committee, Tsunekazu Takeda, said today he will step down from his position when his current term ends in June. French prosecutors placed Takeda under formal investigation in December for suspected corruption in Japan's successful bid to host the 2020 Summer Games.
Takeda, who was president of the 2020 bid committee, said during a JOC board of directors meeting in Tokyo that he would step down from his position when his term ends and not seek re-election. — Reuters
