James Gunn revealed he's in communication with DC Comics head Jim Lee, promising synergy between the DCU and DC Comics.
James Gunn will build better communication with DC by providing synergy between the DCU and the DC Comics universe. James Gunn, alongside Peter Safran, is set to be the co-head of DC in the future. His control spans DC television, film, and animation but doesn't extend to publishing, specifically the comic book division. DC Comics has been continually producing content since 1937 and has never been truly connected to its film adaptations.

Gunn has also been working to eliminate DC's ongoing PR management problem by taking to social media to communicate with fans and answer any questions they might have. In reply to a fan on Mastadon, Gunn explained that he plans to work with the publishing side to ensure better communication between divisions.
Still, having a central head of the DCU is a positive. Marvel Studios has thrived under the control of Kevin Feige, who has been able to offer advanced planning and direction. DC, meanwhile, has had an inconsistent tone and conflicting messages and rarely actually builds up to its massive crossover thrillers like Batman v. Superman and Justice League. Having had experience working in the Marvel Studios model, Gunn can undoubtedly bring a necessary change to DC by providing a plan.
What Would DC Comic-Movie Synergy Look Like? If DC Comics is to begin to match the DCU, there are a few ways they can do it. It could be as simple as releasing solo comics that match the upcoming film, much as Marvel does with the upcoming release of Monica Rambeau: Photon in preparation for the MCU's The Marvels. Since Superman will be DC's priority going forward, according to Gunn, that could mean releasing special Superman solos to get audiences primed for the films.
