While WonderWoman 3 may be scrapped, James Gunn has debunked speculation that Gal Gadot has been 'booted' from the DCU.

James Gunn debunks speculation about Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot having been let go from the DC Universe. Despite having been in the development stages for roughly two years, Wonder Woman 3 was recently revealed to no longer be moving forward. Patty Jenkins, who helmed the first two films, had submitted a Wonder Woman 3 treatment to Warner Bros. Pictures, but due to the new DC Studios regime, her pitch didn't fit into their upcoming DCU vision.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Even though Wonder Woman 3 may, as of right now, not be happening, there has been confusion about Gadot's future with the DCU. Henry Cavill being out as Superman has suggested that some type of reboot is on its way for the DCU, which began in 2013, but there have been rumors and speculations that because Wonder Woman 3 was shelved, Gadot had been fired from the DCU.

If Wonder Woman 3 doesn't get resurrected, it doesn't have to mean the end of Gadot's time in the DCU. While the new Superman movie will focus on a younger Clark Kent, Gunn has never stated if this is a full-on reboot for the franchise. Some speculate that the DCU is starting over, including because Jason Momoa's Aquaman franchise is reportedly not moving forward after his 2023 sequel.

The only significant difference is that it would likely be a version of Diana Prince with an altered backstory compared to the DCU iteration. Even if they were to cast a new Wonder Woman, Gadot could get the Momoa treatment and portray a different DCU player, which has been extended to Cavill too, as he met with Gunn for other future plans. Since they have a DCU strategy in place, that might mean more clarity in 2023, especially to avoid additional false reports and rumors coming out.
