Writer/director James Gunn debunks Peacemaker star Jennifer Holland joining Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after a misinterpreted post. Holland and Gunn first teamed up for the 2019 superhero horror film Brightburn, which was written by the filmmaker's brother Brian and cousin Mark and on which Gunn produced, but would properly collaborate on Gunn's DC Extended Universe debut The Suicide Squad. Holland starred in the film as A.R.G.U.S.
Gunn's DCEU tenure came about when he was initially dismissed from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 by Disney after conservative publications resurfaced old tweets of his. Shortly after being hired by Warner Bros., the House of Mouse would reverse their decision and bring Gunn back for the Marvel Cinematic Universe threequel, allowing him to complete his work on The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker before beginning work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Even if Holland doesn't appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the film will still mark the MCU debut of another Peacemaker star with Chukwudi Iwuji, whose role is being kept thoroughly under wraps but has been described as a complex and powerful being. Additionally, with Peacemaker season 2 already confirmed at HBO Max with Gunn writing and directing it entirely, Holland's superhero genre return is not too far away.
