With no script, Bond 26 is a long way from production, but the perfect director is waiting for the call, and it'd continue a Bond director tradition.
James Bond 26 hasn't found its director yet, but one franchise tradition hints that it could be New Zealand director Martin Campbell. Following No Time to Die, the James Bond franchise is seemingly in limbo. The series needs a hard reset after Bond was killed off in the 2021 movie, and it wouldn't even make sense if M or Q returned, but that opens up the possibility of drastically changing the tone of the franchise.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT MGM producer Barbara Broccoli revealed that the studio isn't remotely close to casting James Bond for whatever the No Time to Die follow-up might be. And the studio doesn't even have a completed script for Bond 26 either, which means it's likely in the early stages of finding a director too.
Martin Campbell Should Direct Bond 26 Ever since the first Pierce Brosnan-starring Bond movie, 1995's GoldenEye, the series has had a mostly revolving door of directors at the helm. Sam Mendes is the obvious exception, as he directed the consecutive releases Skyfall and Spectre. However, Campbell also directed two movies during this time. The New Zealander directed both GoldenEye and Casino Royale, the first movies of each era.
Given that Campbell has been behind the camera for two of the best Bond movies ever made and is still active, hiring him once again is surely the only logical decision. Campbell's recent output hasn't been on the same level as his Bond outings, as his last film was the negatively received Liam Neeson action flick Memory. However, the director-for-hire has proved that, with the right script, he can deliver terrific action sequences and build exciting worlds.
Martin Campbell Can Cater To The New Tone Of The Bond Series The tone of the movie usually dictates which directors would be suitable, as Sam Mendes obviously wouldn't be a great fit for a campier Bond outing. But Campbell has made two drastically different releases, as one was an over-the-top, gadget-filled popcorn flick, and the other was a grounded and much darker affair, which set the trend for the following movies.
