Houston's Jamal Shead to enter name in NBA draft, but could return for senior year
University of Houston point guard Jamal Shead plans to enter his name into the NBA draft but will maintain his college eligibility.
“When you think of college basketball, the University of Houston has been everything and more,” Shead posted Wednesday night on Instagram. “From my team to all the supporters, this experience has been one of the greatest decisions of my life. “After speaking with the coaches and my family, I will be entering my name in the 2023 NBA draft while maintaining college eligibility. My dream is to get to the highest level of sport and will use this opportunity as another building block in my journey. Thank you to everyone for your continuous support.”Shead can enlist the services of an NCAA-certified agent to retain his college eligibility through the pre-draft process.
Shead has until May 31 to decide whether to keep his name in the draft or return for his senior year. The 6-foot-1 junior averaged 10.5 points and 5.4 assists. Shead led the American Athletic Conference in assists for the second year in a row and was named the league’s defensive player of the year.
