Jake Dennis wins 2023 Formula E championship.
Jake Dennis secured the 2022-2023 Formula E driver's championship yesterday, building an insurmountable points lead on championship rivals Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy. He was able to secure the title while finishing second in the first of two races at the category's indoor-outdoor London circuit.
The result was his seventh runner-up finish in 15 races. That unusual stat reflects two major stretches of overwhelming success in a series where consistency has been a challenge even for champions. Dennis finished no worse than fourth in 11 of 15 rounds, only struggling for a four-race stretch in the middle of the season where he failed to secure a top ten. Current second-placed driver Evans had four wins to the two recorded by Dennis, but just six total podiums over the course of the season.
The title is the first for both Dennis and his Andretti Formula E team. The Andretti Formula E operation is part of the larger Andretti Autosport apparatus, which also competes in IndyCar, IMSA, and a wide variety of other championships. Team owner Michael Andretti will hope that this season's Formula E success will bolster the team's, which is expected to finally have an official yes or no in the near future.
Formula E's constructor's championship is still in play and will be decided in today's final race at the London warehouse circuit. Envision Racing leads Jaguar by just 2 points in the race.
