Jacinta Allan has taken aim at the Coalition's proposal for nuclear power, declaring Victorian Labor will oppose any plants being located in the state as long as they’re in government.

'Wil never be part of the mix': Victoria n Premier Jacinta Allan vows to fight federal Coalition over any nuclear power sites in the state

Nine Newspapers reported on Thursday that the Coalition were considering several locations that currently host either coal or gas-fired power stations: Latrobe Valley and Anglesea in Victoria, the Hunter Valley in NSW, Collie in Western Australia, Port Augusta in South Australia, and Maranoa in Queensland.

“We will stand with those communities. We will support those communities against this move, because we know renewable energy is the way forward – not these risky, toxic inexpensive alternatives.” On Wednesday the CSIRO released its annual GenCost report, which said a large-scale nuclear power plan would cost at least $8.5 billion, take 15 years to build, and would produce electricity at roughly twice the cost of renewables.

“So if you have a look at the assumptions in , it just doesn't reflect the reality of the settings, the policy settings, that we would put in place.” “I would prefer to rely on the lived experience and the example that those countries are setting as opposed to the scare campaigns being dreamt up by the Labor Party.”
