Ivanka Trump has been dismissed from the fraud lawsuit filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James against former President Donald Trump, his organization, and his adult children.
A New York appeals court dismissed Ivanka Trump from the $250 million lawsuit in a ruling issued Tuesday, determining that the claims were barred by the state's statute of limitations. Ivanka Trump stepped away from the Trump Organization in 2017 to become her father's senior adviser and wasn't accused of any misconduct during the later time period."The allegations against defendant Ivanka Trump do not support any claims that accrued after February 6, 2016.
The civil lawsuit, brought by James in 2022, alleges several fraudulent business practices conducted by the Trump Organization between 2011 and 2021. It accuses Trump and his elder children — Ivanka, Donald Jr., and Eric Trump — of misleading banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions to manipulate the asset values of his golf courses and the former president's Mar-a-Lago home.
The New York Appellate Division of the Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that alleged wrongdoing on Ivanka Trump's part during 2016 was permissible. However, a lower court will have to determine whether other parts of the lawsuit would also be barred due to the statute of limitations.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER
"There is a mountain of evidence that shows Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization falsely and fraudulently valued multiple assets and misrepresented those values to financial institutions for significant economic gain," an attorney general's office spokesperson said to ABC News following Tuesday's ruling."Those facts haven't changed."
The former president and his children named in the lawsuit have denied any wrongdoing. Donald Trump has decried the case as a"witch hunt" and called James a"racist" motivated by politics.
