Jed Leicester/Maseratiis utterly Italian. The design is bold and brilliant - the GranTurismo and GranCabrio are positively seductive in their curviness. Naturally, the introduction of the Levante SUV in 2016 caused a little concern. The consumer world may appear to be ever-seduced by the size and practicality of the phenomenally popular sports utility vehicle genre, yet it is near-impossible to translate the bloated proportions into motor car beauty.The Levante, though, somehow works its charm.
It is also a hugely friendly car to drive. On the tarmac, the V6 Levante feels much quicker than I anticipate especially when I switch to Sport mode when the exotic Maserati engine note kicks in. The exterior design is aero-driven, yet at 2,109kg, the Levante is not a particularly light car - few SUVs are - so zero to 62 mph takes about 6 seconds.
