The minister dismisses Mahathir's gripes as 'red herring'.

Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan had dismissed Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's gripes about Malaysia's water deal with Singapore as a"red herring".

"Malaysia previously acknowledged that they chose not to seek a review of the deal in 1987 because they benefited from the pricing arrangement. Balakrishnan said Singapore sold around 16 million gallons of treated water to Johor daily, at heavily subsidised prices and well above its obligation to sell only five million gallons of water a day.
