Over 30 million PS5 units have been sold so far SonyCES TechNave

When Sony took the stage at the CES 2023, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment announced some good news. At the 57-minute mark in the press conference video here, he said getting a PlayStation 5 should be much easier now.

That's right, from its debut back in November 2020, the PS5 shortage has come to an end. “Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward,” said Ryan during his presentation. At the same time, he also proudly announced that over 30 million PS5 units have been sold thanks to the 2022 December holiday sales.

To refresh your memory, getting the PS5 was like finding a needle in a haystack due to chip shortage and scalpers grabbing them before the customers could. However, the scalpers seem to have lost interest when Sony increased the price tag. In Malaysia, the PS5 Blu-Ray and Digital versions now cost RM2069 and RM2499 respectively.

This year, PS5 fans can look forward to upcoming AAA games with the likes of Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy and Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Until then, stay tuned for more trending tech news at TechNave.com.
