Political analyst Professor Joe Siracusa has warned the United States must be careful in its reaction to a second Chinese spy balloon being spotted flying over America amid increasing tensions between the two nations.
The first Chinese spy balloon was spotted hovering above the US on Friday but the Pentagon said it had been tracking it for several days and believed it was"well above" commercial aircraft posing no"military of physical threat".
“It’s a big deal and keep in mind that tension right now between the US and China is very high anything can set it off,” he said. “But if they do, they will have set a jurisdictional pretext for the Chinese to shoot down everything over the South China Sea because they claim not only the waters of the South China Sea they claim the air above it.”
“I think it’s unusual that an incident like this could actually force the secretary of state to postpone the most carefully planned meeting in three or four years so it’s a big deal.” China attempted to apologise for the first spy balloon claiming it was used to measure the weather and had been blown off course.
