Broadview Heights voters will decide in November whether the city should prohibit any further construction of townhomes, townhome subdivisions or apartments in Broadview Heights, except for in the center of town.
Bordeaux Crossings, at the corner of Broadview and Boston roads, might be the last townhome subdivision in Broadview Heights. prohibit any further construction of townhomes, townhome subdivisions or apartments
Issue 26 would remove B-2 zoning -- which permits and regulates the development of townhomes and apartments -- from the city code., who helped lead the effort to present the B-1 and B-2 issues to voters, has stated that townhomes don’t fit in or near Broadview Heights’ single-family-home neighborhoods. These include Bordeaux Crossings, which will consist of 60 townhomes on 15 acres at the northeast corner of Broadview and Boston roads.
One month later, council pushed back against Bordeaux Crossing, saying the development was too dense and would increase traffic too much. Nevertheless, council approved the subdivision this past summer. In the meantime, a nine-month moratorium on any new residential developments, which council passed in April, will remain in effect until January.
According to meeting minutes, the discussion about townhome zoning started at the March 8 and March 22 Planning Commission meetings, where Boldt expressed concern about houses “on top of each other” in newer residential developments.
