BEIRUT : The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported an Israel i airstrike in the heart of Beirut, around 4 am on Saturday, killing 20 people. The blast that rocked the capital city left a deep crater, leaving a strong smell of explosives in Beirut for hours. The incident is described as the deadliest attack to hit the capital region since Israel launched an offensive against Hezbollah last September.
Simultaneously, 13 more victims were killed, including four children in the villages of Chimsar and Bodai, northeast of the capital in the Baalbek region. In Beirut, an eight-story building was targeted with four missiles, including bunker-busting types designed to penetrate underground targets. At the site of the Israeli strike in central Beirut, Hezbollah MP Amin Chirri said that no Hezbollah leaders were inside the building targeted. Israel used bunker-buster weapons to kill senior Hezbollah figures, including its main leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in an attack on southern Beirut last September. -AF
