Israel has amassed troops near the border of the densely populated Gaza Strip, an Israel Defense Forces spokesperson said Wednesday, suggesting preparations for a ground incursion, which U.S. officials have told The Washington Post they expect to begin this week.
” Israeli forces are readying to “execute the mission that they have been given,” Conricus said, referring to a pledge Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made to destroy Hamas’s military capacity. They have also rebuilt the barrier along the border with Gaza and “plugged and mended” the openings that Hamas used to infiltrate, he said.
