Yocheved Lifshitz, an 85-year-old Israeli woman who was taken hostage by Hamas on October 7, has spoken publicly about her ordeal.
Speaking to reporters outside Ichilov hospital in Tel Aviv, where she was taken after being freed, she said that she went "through hell". Due to food insecurity, women and children, especially pregnant and lactating women, are at risk of under or-malnutrition, which will negatively affect their immune health, increasing their susceptibility to contracting maternal nutrition-related illnesses such as anaemia, preeclampsia, haemorrhage, the hospital's VP of Nursing told Reuters the two elderly women were in "good condition".
He says the Israeli government is trying to balance international and domestic concerns at the moment while also ensuring the ground force is all ready logistically to go into Gaza "If and when they do, do that"."There's over 200 hostages dispersed widely around Gaza and if you're in a ground force you've got it in the back of your mind the whole time that round the next corner there might be enemies shooting at you and behind them might be a hostage," he says.
The National Security Council's strategic communications coordinator John Kirby told a White House press briefing: From here you can see down into the northern strip of Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of people have been warned to evacuate. "The Israeli government is deliberately deepening the suffering of civilians in Gaza by refusing to restore the flow of water and electricity and blocking fuel shipments," the group said in a statement.
"They are effective at propaganda. This release today of two older Israeli women is simply that — propaganda.""There could be 200 different hiding locations for these hostages," he said.
