PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has been free of fake news related to Covid-19 over the past week, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission had not opened any investigation papers on Covid-19 fake news for over a week.
“This is a positive scenario, reflecting the people’s awareness on the dangers of spreading fake news. “Perhaps, the focus is on other sensational news, like politics, but there is no fake news being spread on Covid-19, and I am happy about this, ” he said on Tuesday . To date, 266 investigation papers had been opened by the authorities to investigate claims of fake news on Covid-19.The Communication and Multimedia Ministry has issued 313 denials and explanations to counter fake news since the movement control order was enforced on March 18.
