The recent offensive by Islamist rebels in Aleppo, Syria, has significantly altered the balance of power, with rebels now controlling central areas and dismantling symbols of President Assad's regime, marking a major setback for the government.
Islamist rebels, once confined to a mountainous region in Syria, now control parts of central Aleppo . They have been dismantling symbols of President Bashar al-Assad’s rule, including a statue of Bassel al-Assad, his brother. The rebels, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham ( HTS ), have taken significant territory, pushing into the city of Hama and seizing the civilian airport. Turkish-backed rebels also launched an operation to seize a military airport from Kurdish and Syrian government forces.
The offensive has caught forces loyal to Assad, as well as his backers in Moscow and Tehran, off guard. This marks the most serious challenge to Assad’s control in several years
