My will names my sister as primary executor and my stepson as secondary. Some things in my sister's life have changed, and it's unlikely that she would be able to travel from the state where she lives to Houston to fulfill some of the requirements, but my stepson would be able to get here within two days.
If you trust that your sister will do as you tell her and decline to serve, then that would be the simplest way to change the order of your executors. But if you think your sister might decide to serve, or if there is no alternate executor named after your stepson, then it would probably be better to sign a short codicil to your will changing the one paragraph which appoints executors.I have in my possession two stock certificates purchased by my great-grandmother 100 years ago.
