IS claims deadly attack on police in Russian Caucasus
Balloons are launched near the monument to the Beslan hostage victims in Moscow, Russia, on September 3, 2019. Fifteen years ago on this day, Islamist gunmen took more 1,100 people hostage in a school in Russia's North Caucasus, in what would become the region's most horrific terrorist attack. Some 334 people, 186 of them children, were killed and more than 800 injured in the three-day siege.
TWO men who attacked a police post this week killing at least one officer in the Russian Caucasus were fighters from the Islamic State jihadist group, the IS propaganda agency Amaq said. The perpetrators rammed a car into a traffic police post outside the city of Magas in Ingushetia region around 5.30pm on Tuesday, after which they attacked policemen with knives, according to the regional government.
