The IRS has historically received a peak number of calls during Presidents Day weekend, which could cause callers to wait for long periods of time for someone to answer their call. To help avoid the wait times, there are several self-help tools available on the agency's website that taxpayers can take advantage of, according to an announcement the IRS made Thursday.
Taxpayers who wish to find answers to any questions they have may be able to find the answers on the IRS's website by using the Interactive Tax Assistant or by checking the Frequently Asked Questions page. Additionally, taxpayers can check their IRS Online Account, where they can access personal tax account information, or use the IRS Free File tool that allows eligible taxpayers to prepare their own returns for free. The IRS has been accepting tax returns from taxpayers since Jan.
All employers were required to issue Form W-2s to all of their employees by Jan. 31. Any employee who has not yet received this form should contact their employer to receive it, the IRS recommends.
