IOC to adjust Tokyo 2020 qualifications system

The International Olympic Committee says it would continue to monitor the Covid-19 situation round-the-clock, with the establishment of a special task force in mid-February. – EPA pic, March 18, 2020.

WITH many Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifiers affected by the global Covid-19 pandemic, the International Olympic Committee looks set to make adaptations to the qualifications system for the Games scheduled from July 24 to August 9. The IOC said in a communique it will work with international federations to make any necessary and practical adaptations to their respective qualification systems, with 57% of athletes qualifying for the global showdown to date.
