“City Council believes a publicly issued written censure and vote of no confidence are the appropriate response to Councilmember Bravo’s actions on [Sept. 15],” the agenda item for the Nov. 10 council meeting reads.
Councilman Mario Bravo faces a possible vote of no confidence by his fellow City Council members next week, stemming from an outburst directed at Councilwoman Ana Sandoval in September.San Antonio City Council members will vote next week on whether to formally sanction Councilman Mario Bravo with a vote of no confidence over an outburst directed at Councilwoman Ana Sandoval in September, according to a meeting agenda posted Thursday evening.
City Council members met behind closed doors Thursday morning to discuss the issue for roughly two hours at the beginning of their regular meeting. Bravo and Sandoval were not in the room for the presentation of findings or the discussion of how City Council should respond, according to sources familiar with the situation.
A draft of the resolution City Council will vote on next week says Bravo’s “behavior has negatively impacted his and the City Council’s ability to conduct its business,” leading the Council to “lose confidence in his ability to act as an effective colleague.” Pelaez said City Attorney Andy Segovia instructed council members to refer reporters to his office for further information.“If you look at the charter, clearly [members of the Council] cannot be removed,” Segovia said, but Nirenberg could permanently remove Bravo from his committee assignments if the mayor chooses.
