He thought he had COVID, but it was a heart condition and then open heart surgery
Now, Griswold, 68, says he is basically back to normal and wants to spread the word to tell everyone to care for themselves and if something seems off, see a doctor. Griswold, who In some instances, doctors may monitor a patient with this condition or prescribe medications. But Griswold’s was severe enough that he needed surgery, what doctors told him would most likely be a relatively minor procedure.
The mitral valve has two leaflets that can become damaged. In about 70% of people mitral valve surgeries involve only one of the leaflets. In Griswold’s case, both needed to be repaired, Heimansohn said. In addition to fixing those, Heimansohn also replaced Griswold’s faulty aortic valve with a valve from a cow. In a fog for the first day or two in the hospital, Griswold can recall waking up and hearing his partner Kelly tell him not to pull out any of the tubes.
