An Italian restaurant has apologised after it was criticised by Italy’s Ambassador to Singapore for trying to hold a mafia-themed night.

IPOH: Interviews with citizenship applicants will be conducted in a relaxed manner, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said it was part of the ministry's aim to improve and ease citizenship applications."Instead of using structured questions or asking these in a regimented manner, we want to do interviews in a relaxed manner," he said at a press conference during his visit to Rumah Seri Kenangan here on Monday .

"We want to improve on this," he said, adding that the process would be done without compromising the requirements laid down in the Federal Constitution. Saifuddin Nasution also said that there are about 12,000 applications for citizenship through Article 19 of the Constitution that are still being processed.

"A series of interviews will be conducted with the applicants. We want to facilitate the applications without delay," he said.
