I was trying to study food photography and find my personal style, and I found that some of the most inspirational food photos were being published on Instagram. I fell quickly into that visual culture, trying to soak it all up.The origin of the name is kind of insignificant, but the blog has certainly grown into its name and what it signifies for me.
African-American foodways, but overall I’m studying the social, political, and cultural role of food in both past societies and present-day societies. I’m learning the impact our food choices make on our personal lives, on our neighbors’ lives, and on the environment, but also the complexities of how the agricultural industry, social hierarchies, and cultural identities emerged and continue to emerge around the commodification of food.
