7NEWS: WA cyclist Connor Lambert dies in Belgium training crash

Jai Hindley, a Perth rider who currently sits third in the Tour de France, was among the first to honour his friend and fellow rider.“A great guy. It was a privilege to know and to call you a mate. The admiration was clearly mutual. Just a week ago when Hindley won the fifth stage of this year’s famous tour, Lambert posted: “Couldn’t happen to a better, hard-working or genuine person and family.”Lambert’s former club said it was ‘an honour and pleasure’ having him in the team.

“We celebrated together some victories and supported his goals and passion for the bike,” MBO Cycling manager Olivier Onderbeke said.“Our thoughts go out to the Lambert family and all his friends.”Others described him as “one of the nicest guys you would ever meet” and a “legend of a human being”.

“Connor exemplified the very essence of dedication, passion, and resilience. His unwavering commitment to his sport was matched only by his unwavering spirit, which never faltered in the face of challenges or setbacks.“Whether it was on the road or off the field, he consistently pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible, setting new standards of excellence for himself and those around him.

The coffee bar and bike shop where Lambert had previously worked said their “good friend” and “family member” had offered them great support during their start-up days and was “one of the good guys” who “was always ready to help or crack a joke”. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man who died in Belgium.
