Swift played her first N.J. show in 5 years Friday night, a mammoth showcase of pop mania
she had something to prove. Her accompanying “Reputation” album had received a lukewarm reception from fans, and the tour itself wasn’t exactly a blockbuster — tickets were available for $50 on secondary market websites the day of the show. Still, her visit tobroke records, marking her as the first woman to headline the state’s largest venue for three consecutive nights.
And forget those paltry previous setlists. Swift, 33, jammed a true marathon this night: three hours and 38 minutes on stage across 45 songs and one surprise music video premiere . Surely, this was not only the longest stadium performance of her career, but the lengthiest set by any solo female artist singing for 70,000 people in modern American history.Matt Smith | For NJ Advance Medi
Once the video finished and fans’ souls returned to their bodies, Swift began her two-song “secret song” acoustic set, where she plays different deep cuts and favorites each night . For the first tune, she welcomedthe New Jersey singer, songwriter and producer who’s worked on Swift’s last eight albums. Donning a “Welcome to New Jersey, Now Go Home” t-shirt and leather jacket, Antonoff joined Swift on guitar for “Getaway Car,” a “Reputation” track they co-wrote.
“We’re going to go on a little trip together, a journey through the last 17 years of music that I’ve been lucky enough to make, one era at a time,” Swift said early, shimmering in her rhinestoned bodysuit.
