Irish Mirror flew to Manchester to hear iconic band's first Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos mixes and chat to the music heroes involved
New Order’s Blue Monday was one of the most influential records of the 80s, a futuristic electronic indie-dance powerhouse with an unmistakable unique sound.
“When I revisited the original multitrack tapes,” Wilson revealed, “I could not get the iconic kick drum to sound the way it did on the original record. I sent the remix to Stephen Morris who said it wasn’t close enough to the original. Apple's take on immersive audio was introduced in 2021 and uses directional filters to create the surround sound experience in its AirPods headphones. The end result makes it feel as if the music is coming from all around you.
Wilson relished working on Movement. He told Irish Mirror: “One of the reasons I love Movement so much is it is the most logical bridge between what went before and what came after. It still has that kind of post punk aesthetic but it’s also looking forward. There's more use of electronics on it and it still has the Martin Hannett production.
Listen to New Order’s albums Low-Life, Movement and Blue Monday in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos exclusively on Apple Music.
