INMATES at just one jail brewed more than 3,300 pints of dodgy hooch last year as prison booze seizures soared, The Sun can reveal.Staff seized more than 3,300 pints of illegal alcohol from HMP Lowdham Grange, NottsAnd specialist brewing kits are also being uncovered in record numbers, with finds almost trebling since 2017.
David Spencer, of the Centre for Crime Prevention, said: “Most people will be flabbergasted that so many inmates have been able to not only stash booze in prison but to actually distil liquor.Illegal hooch or “pruno” is made by mixing fruit, warm water, sugar and bread and leaving it to ferment. It can be up to 14 per cent alcohol. In TV’s Porridge, it got the thumbs up from Fletcher and Godber, played by Ronnie Barker and Richard Beckinsale. That was up from 3,205 finds in 2016/17.
