'Missing' inmate found near Beaumont prison fence shortly after guards launched search
About an hour after he was first reported missing, prison administrators early Tuesday found an inmate near the perimeter fence at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont, according to officials with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Zachary Myrick, 42, had been reported missing during a routine count Tuesday morning, said Amanda Hernandez, a spokeswoman for the department. In April 2009 Myrick had been sentenced to 24 years in prison following a conviction on two counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, officials said.Just after 7 a.m., prison workers found Myrick near the perimeter fence of the unit, officials said.
