Indonesian team wins contest to build software to fight wildlife trafficking

Lintang Adyuta Sutawika and his friends who developed the Pangolin software speak to reporters after winning the Zoohackathon contest in Kota Kinabalu.

Zoohackathon, a programme supported by the US embassy, is designed as part of efforts to develop technological tools to fight wildlife trafficking. Group leader Lintang Adyuta Sutawika, who works as an artificial intelligence engineer, said Pangolin extracts crucial keywords from the World Wide Web and stores them.

“This will assist the authorities to identify smuggling routes and what wildlife is being most traded,” he said.
