The ship was “disturbing the activity of a survey” being conducted by state-owned oil company Pertamina, it said.Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a regular press briefing today that its coast guard vessels carried out “routine patrols in waters under China’s jurisdiction in accordance with international and domestic law”.
The incidents are an early test for newly inaugurated President Prabowo Subianto who has pledged to bolster the defence of Indonesian territory. China claims almost the entire South China Sea and has ignored an international tribunal ruling that its assertions have no legal basis.
