The Arrernte elder, artist and author was a recipient of an Order of Australia Medal in 1997 for her work in the First Nations community in Central Australia.
Recently she worked at Children's Ground, a First Nations organisation aiming to put in place systems to empower young Indigenous children and address economic, social and cultural challenges.
"She taught us a lot of stuff, a lot of things, that we can pass down from generation to generation." Dr Turner was born near the Spotted Tiger bore of Hart's Range and grew up at the Santa Teresa Mission.
