A bill that many teachers see as union busting passed the Indiana House Monday by a 63-36 vote.
"Make no mistake, that is a union busting bill," said GlenEva Dunham, American Federation of Teachers Indiana president."Teacher after teacher shared their factual encounters and why we need that language removed from this bill — or otherwise, it is an OK bill. Did they listen? No, they did not."
"What I'm hearing is we don't have faith in our school leaders and our teachers to be able to have these adult conversations without the state interjecting itself," Teshka said April 12. "Teachers use their discussion rights to advocate for their students on issues like class sizes, student discipline and curriculum with administrators," the ISTA said in a statement."The Republican supermajority has yet to make a case how taking away this right will help kids and improve Indiana’s teacher shortage crisis."Indiana students lose out on $70M annually in college grants.
"This no longer becomes a matter of right for our teachers or expectation for our citizens but this becomes an option for those superintendents who feel like doing it," DeLaney said."That is a fundamentally dramatic change in the relationship."
