Yesterday, Modi told the heads of Indian states in a video call the federal government would look at a “gradual withdrawal” of the lockdown, which has been repeatedly extended until May 17. Separately, India's railway ministry opened bookings for passenger services with 15 trains a day from today connecting Delhi to Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and other big cities.
India's rail, road and air services were suspended in March to stop infections into the country's interior, but the case numbers have risen daily. Officials say the spread of the disease would be worse if without Modi's stringent restrictions. “Overall corona figures rising in Delhi but at the same time people are getting cured and going back home safe. Now we've to learn to live with corona,” he said.
