Anthony Albanese has confirmed that India will participate in the Australian Defence Force’s flagship war games, Exercise Talisman Sabre, for the first time.
India will step up its participation in joint military exercises with Australia after being elevated to a “top-tier security partner”, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced in Mumbai on Thursday.
“For Australia, India is a top-tier security partner. The Indian Ocean is central to both countries’ security and prosperity,” he said.“And there has never been a point in both of our country’s histories where we’ve had such a strong strategic alignment. Australia’s hosting of Exercise Malabar is in stark contrast to India’s attitude just a few years ago, when New Delhi rebuffed attempts for the Australian navy’s involvement and then allowed it to attend in just an observer role.
