SANDAKAN: Independent candidate Chia Siew Yung is launching a declaration to stamp out money politics on Sunday.

Chia decided to come out with the declaration after he was approached by several groups offering their services to influence the voters in return of payment.

“Chia was shocked by the obnoxious proposals insinuated to him as a norm in elections,” his publicist Kanul Gindol said. “Chia feels it is his social responsibility and civic obligation to eradicate vote-buying practices which could lead to a corrupt society.” Kanul said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has been invited to attend the signing of the declaration.
