KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 — Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s special briefing with Umno leaders and members today called for the purging of traitors from the party to strengthen it post the 15th general election .
“The president doesn't want treason in Umno; when we contested, party leaders that come from Umno also supported other parties,” he told reporters after attending the two hour briefing. “We believe that for the future of the party, unification is necessary and we also need to clean up the party because there are those who have sabotaged it in the past election for some reason,” he said.
According to Abdul Rahman, Zahid urged Umno leaders to refrain from being pessimistic in facing the road ahead, especially in the upcoming state elections, where cooperation with unity government ally Pakatan Harapan seems likely.
