The soon-to-be ex-senator shared a vast trove of his personal emails and journals with biographer McKay Coppins for this book.
yielded up several items worthy of Page Six, if not Page One. To wit: that soon-to-be ex-senator Mitt Romney — he has decided not to run for reelection — holds many of his colleagues in low esteem; that he finds Mike Pence’s “pious brand of Trump sycophancy” off-putting; and that he keeps a bar of “Trump’s Small Hand Soap” in the powder room of his Washington pied-à-terre.
Romney has an extensive résumé that was largely forgotten after his electoral drubbing at the hands of Barack Obama in 2012. After coining money as a co-founder of the private investment firm Bain Capital, Romney accepted the political suicide mission offor a Senate seat in Massachusetts in 1994, more or less because he liked the idea of a challenge.
Romney is remarkably candid about his relationship with Trump, who supported his presidential campaign in 2012. When Romney first met the future president at Mar-a-Lago in 1995, Trump’s daughter Tiffany was in a high chair and Trump was boasting about some gold tableware that he claimed was inadvertently left behind by the previous owners. Romney found the caudillo of Mar-a-Lago both “undeniably entertaining” and “deeply weird.
