In future, no more interference by the A-G

SOMETHING really funny happened the other day. I read in the news that some 20,000 or so people were arrested for violating the movement-control order . I think it is fair to say that the attorney-general had literally wasted everyone’s time in prosecutions under the MCO regulations.

Regulation 2 of P.U 337/93 states the offence in the First Schedule are prescribed as offences, which may be compounded in accordance with Section 25 of the Act by the Director-General or any public officer authorised in writing by him. One is the MCO regulations itself, which essentially states what needs to be done and what cannot be done. The latest for phase 4 was P.U 133/2020.

And it has been made abundantly clear that the health D-G or policemen authorised in writing by him have the discretion to compound ALL offences under the MCO regulations.
