In 2019, KimKardashian added a new level of intimacy to her Instagram by bringing us inside her closet (and styling process) with a series of 'fitting pics.'
Kim Kardashian West can be surprisingly open — and even brutally candid — about the process that leads to her looks. In her” video, we felt like we were right there with the mogul, reverberating in her endearing vocal fry, as she talked about nauseatingly bright Juicy tracksuits and woe-was-me bandage dresses of noughties past. In another video about getting fitted in a Thierry Mugler custom number for the 2019 Met, KKW mentioned that she could not sit down in the piece because it was.
These aren’t “fit pics,” which simply shows off what the wearer is wearing, but they are actually “fitting pictures,” as in she is getting fitted in a special piece of garb, choosing from a rotation of items, that she will get photographed in by the paparazzi. These sorts of posts made up a healthy amount of her Instagram posts this past 2019. Often, she takes a fitting pic while standing in some enormous room-turned-closet presumably in her house surrounded by clothes.
There are designer shout-outs in these fitting pics. Out of the 18 fitting pics that she posted this year, five of the photos were tagged “Versace” and one was tagged “Rick Owens.” In a picture from November 21, she stands in front of the mirror, rising out of a pile of clothes and papers like a mermaid Venus in a slinky, slathered-in-sequins Versace dress. Her caption is written in Instagram-era stream of consciousness: “How good would this @versace dress have been if it fit,” she writes.
Luckily, there will be no shortage of fitting pics for Kardashian West. On March 29, she posted an image of herself among racks and racks of clothes, boxes, bags, and accessories, wearing a glittering mini gem-encrusted pink dress. Her caption? “I have fitting pics for days [.]” Well, Kim, We can’t wait to see them in 2020.
