The Nation Newspaper Imo cracks down on illegal pipe laying
In a special announcement on Friday signed by the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmos Iwu, the government expressed dismay over the indiscriminate construction and laying of pipes in the streets, despite existing laws prohibiting such practices.According to the announcement, “Anyone caught violating the right of way law by digging, and laying pipes without approval from the relevant government departments will be arrested and prosecuted without further warning.
He said that the government’s move is aimed at ensuring public safety, preventing damage to infrastructure, and maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the state’s cities. He urged residents and business owners to comply with the law and obtain the necessary approvals before embarking on any pipe-laying activities.
The government’s crackdown on illegal pipe laying is expected to bring an end to the chaos and disorder that has characterized the state’s streets in recent times. Exposed!!
