Police identified the woman killed in the crash as Santu Maya, of Oakland.
OAKLAND — Police on Tuesday released images of the driver and vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and run collision June 16 in East Oakland that left a 58-year-old woman dead.The fatal collision happened about 7:05 p.m. June 16 at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Vicksburg Avenue.
Maya, who lived in the area, was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a black Mercedes that was going westbound on Foothill and failed to stop for a red light, police said. Police said they believe the Mercedes was involved in a street race and the driver was speeding when the car hit her. Traffic investigators canvassed the area and found video surveillance they said was taken of the driver and vehicle earlier in the day at a car wash in the area. Police said the suspect vehicle is a newer Mercedes Benz E-350, possibly from 2010 to 2013, black in color with tinted windows and stock rims. The rear license plate, CA 5AUT731, may have been removed.Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
