PETALING JAYA: Police have crippled an illicit cigarette smuggling syndicate with the arrest of six people including a Vietnamese woman.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani Said an operation in Klang and Shah Alam was launched on Sunday ."We arrested five men and a Vietnamese woman, aged between 24 and 46, during the operation," he said in a statement."We also seized currencies amounting to RM83,400,29 cheques worth RM142,767, a BMW 525i, a Toyota Estima, a Toyota Camry, Toyota Vios and a five-tonne Isuzu lorry.
"The total seizure is worth at least RM3.171mil," he said, adding that the suspects have been remanded at the North Klang police headquarters for seven days. Comm Acryl Sani said the case was being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967 and Section 7 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
