Buthelezi’s wish on hold as next year’s elections turn into a high-stake game for both the ANC and the IFP.
The long overdue ANC/IFP reconciliation talks considered key in the quelling of tensions between supporters of the two parties dating back to the ’80s, are yet to get off the ground.
The IFP, which is currently in talks with the DA to co-govern KwaZulu-Natal should the ANC fall below 50+1 of support in KZN in the upcoming polls, is concerned that initiating formal talks with the ANC could cost it at the polls. For many years now we in the IFP have been projecting the ANC as a corrupt political party.
On the other hand, Nxumalo was an ANC activist who authored the book titled Gatsha Buthelezi: chief with a double agenda. The book was regarded by Buthelezi and IFP members as an insult to the IFP founder.
