The Brisbane River has been ruled out as one of the venue options for the Olympic triathlon when Queensland hosts the global event in eight years' time.
Queensland Premier Steven Miles has addressed questioning surrounding a major Brisbane landmark and if it could be incorporated into the opening ceremony and a key Games event in 2032.The Brisbane River has been ruled out as one of the venue options for the Olympic triathlon when Queensland hosts the global event in eight years' time.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner last week suggested the Brisbane River be incorporated in some capacity in the Games as it is an"icon of our city". Queensland Premier Steven Miles was on Monday asked if the Brisbane River could play host to the triathlon, similar to the Seine used in Paris for the event.
The Premier previously said the Brisbane River would link key venues - such as Suncorp Stadium, South Bank and the athletes' village - during the global event. "Paris is a beautiful city, but I think Brisbane is quite spectacular as well in terms of the setting and the backdrop of the CBD."It comes amid ongoing fallout from using the River Seine for the triathlon.
